EDUC-762: Assessment in E-Learning
Learning Objective 1
Learning Objective
Students will demonstrate their ability to analyze and discuss possible solutions of systems of linear equations, by using Haiku's online discussion board with 100% accuracy, according to the discussion rubric.
Activity
Students will use Desmos (an online graphing tool) to plot systems of linear equations. Each student will graph four systems and record their findings. Students will begin to analyze the relationship between two lines and the solution set(s) that occur.
Assessment
Students will participate in a discussion through the learning management system Haiku. Here, each student will be responsible for sharing their findings, comment on other students' findings, and help draw conclusions as to solutions of systems of linear equations. The rubric can be viewed below.
Tool Description: Haiku Discussion Board
Haiku is a learning management system that school districts subscribe to. Having to pay for a subscription is one deterrent from utilizing this tool unless the school already subscribes. Haiku is comprehensive, so if you are already using it to organize your course a discussion there would be natural. Discussions can be set up so that the entire class can participate, groups can be sectioned off, or students and teachers can share journals one-on-one. This flexibility allows for a variety of assessment tasks. Haiku works simultaneously with Google Documents. You can upload a Google Document into the Discussion Board and have any changes you make to it automatically update in Haiku. Haiku also has a mobile platform improving ease of use with one-to-one initiatives. Within the discussion board teachers are able to change how they view and see new content, making it easier than scrolling through all read material.
