EDUC-763: Instructional Design for E-Learning
Course Components: Activity Sample
There are three types of activities that allow for a progression through different depths of knowledge. Students should be introduced to content through "absorb" activities where they listen to content or read about it. Then students need to "do" the practice. This could be a sorting activity, practicing math facts, or similar activities. Finally, students need to "connect." In this level, students take ownership for their understanding and create authentic work.
Below is an example of a "connect" activity. This is a connect activity as students are required to create authentic work and search out real-world connections. Students are able to present in a variety of formats that best suits their learning style. Students are also able to choose the items they include that allows students to self-differentiate the task. The activity comes from Exploratorium and would be adopted to the online environment by using web based presentation tool rather than just paper and pencil. A sample I created with colleagues is below the activity. Following the presentation is a short quiz in the video.
